In Germany, it will be mandatory from 2026 for digital invoices to be issued in x-rechnung / ZUGFeRD format. This means that a digital data record (XML) is attached to the PDF, which contains the invoice as a data record.
The obligation is an EU requirement and will also be/become relevant in other countries.
Without this adjustment, the pdf invoice cannot be used in a legally compliant Mannes.

Thank you very much for your detailed feedback and for bringing attention to this requirement! 🙌
We have recently implemented XML file invoices compliant with the EN 16931 UBL standard, which is aligned with current European electronic invoicing regulations. This should support legal compliance for digital invoicing.
We would really appreciate it if you could give this a try and let us know whether it meets expectations for your use case. If there are any additional elements needed, your feedback will help us ensure full compliance moving forward.
Thanks for the update. The adjustment is great. Unfortunately, the ‘XRechnung’ format is standard in Germany. An XRechnung is EN 16931 compatible, but an ‘EN 16931 XML’ is still not an XRechnung.
So is the requirement met? Yes and no. There will be German public authorities and companies that will not accept your file. Basically, however, the European requirement is met.
Unfortunately, there is one problem: in Germany, it is (still) common practice to send both PDF and XML files. Unfortunately, with your adjustment, you can only send either PDF or XML files. If you could select both options when sending notifications by email, it would be perfect!
